There are few things that truely frighten me, but I definitely have a fear of spiders. My wife and I once visited a jungle in the Khao Sok National Park, Thailand. Upon arrival, there was a 10ft diameter spider web with this black and yellow spider that was about the size of a basketball. I was completely terrified. Later that day, I was wandering around in the jungle, not the least bit concerned with the wild elephants, tigers, giant pythons, cobras, or the leaches that lived in the jungle. All I could think about was one of those giant spiders dropping down from a tree and landing on my head. I don't like spiders.
I tried to keep this painting kind of simple and fun. I started with the splashes of paint, added some random scribbles, then transformed a few of them into animals. I have a tendency to add too much to a painting, so keeping this one simple was the biggest challenge. I didn't look at the painting for a few weeks, but was happy I left it alone.
There is a book and movie by the same title, but it's an unrelated coincidence. I saw the movie and remember nothing about it.
