One of my favorite things to do in NYC is go for walks in Prospect Park and Central Park. It's a great place for people watching as well. The diversity of people here is like no place I have ever seen. I'm constantly humored by the abundance of very small pets being walked through the park. Small apartments create a market for very small things including pets.

This painting came together pretty quickly. I did a drawing with white charcoal on the black covered newspaper & wood surface (photo below). Since I have been doing a lot of line carvings, I decided to do the same with this using an X-acto knife. I wanted more contrast than the exposed white newspaper to the black, so I used a silver paint pen to re-trace the cut lines. The random chaos in the background is white charcoal, black charcoal/pencil, black acrylic paint, x-acto blade scratching. I scraped much of the black paint off the border exposing some of the underlying wood.
