Shark In The Park
2008 - 11"x12" Acrylic, colored pencil, oil pastel, tissue paper, on wood.
Finished with one coat brush on Liquitex Matte Varnish #5232
(Private Collection - New York)

It may still be winter, but I'm thinking of spring. I went for a walk in Central Park on my birthday and was thinking about warmer days and the colors that would soon arrive.

I collected a bunch of confetti from the Chinese New Years parade and there were some Chinese symbols made of tissue paper. That is what you see in the tree.

During my walk, I passed by the Metropolitan Museum, which is right on the Upper East Side of Central Park. Damien Hirst's, "The physical impossibility of death in the mind of someone living", a tiger shark in a formaldehyde filled tank, is on exhibit there. That was the inspiration for the flying shark.

This is a photo of the painting in development.
