Fish Can't Swim
2008 - 11"x12" Acrylic, pencil, colored pencil, newspaper, on wood.
Finished with two coats of Krylon Kamar Varnish #1312
(Not For Sale)

I was thinking of an abstract landscape scene but couldn't decide if it looked more like the ocean, mountains, or desert. It ended up being a little bit of all three. There are three fish in the painting walking around and a person standing on top of a mountaing in the distance. You can decide what the painting is about.

The entire piece of wood was covered with Brooklyn Rail newspaper and gesso. The outline & scales of the fish were made by cutting into the surface with an exacto knife. I also used an exacto knife & razor blade to scratch & scrape the surface, especially to the right of the fish's tail. I wanted the painting to look like it was 10,000 years old.

This is a photo of the painting in development.
