This painting went in many directions before it ended up as you see it. It was going to be a collage of some scrap doodling paper that I glued to the wood. It looked terrible so I removed all of it. There's still some paper residue left, with the largest piece being in the lower right corner by the pink flower. I was also trying to keep it entirely black & white, but it was too difficult. I experimented with color for the animals before discovering that black & white made the best contrast to a color background. I used a razor blade and eraser to give the painting a faded/weathered look. The animals were inspired by a recent trip to the Bronx zoo.
