Black Mountains
2006 - 16"x20" Acrylic, charcoal, ink, oil pastel on canvas.
(Private Collection - Alabama)

This painting and "The Safety Is Not Poisonous" were made around the same time. It represents my early experimentation with abstract art, and mixed media. One of my primary influences for abstract art is Ethopian artist, Wosene.

In the left/center area in white is an electrical schematic. I belive I referenced a Fender Bassman tube amp schematic and was experimenting with oil pastel transfer. You take a drawing, rub oil pastel on the back, then trace over the drawing transfering the image to the painting. Same idea as the carbon paper. The vertical symbols in red & white were done as stencils. I applied a piece of clear tape to the painting, then cut out patters with an exacto knife. I painted over the cutout areas and removed tape.
